North to Tayside

Blair Castle, PerthshirePitcairlie is just a short drive from the Tay Bridge, which gives easy access to Dundee, the Angus glens, and the east coast towns of Carnoustie - venue of the 1999 and 2007 Open Golf Championships - Arbroath, Montrose and Stonehaven.

Dundee has witnessed a revival of its image in recent years and now has two of the finest visitor attractions in Scotland. Discovery Point features Captain Scott's polar exploration ship Discovery, while Verdant Works tells the story of Dundee's long connection with the jute trade and was the 1999 winner of European Industrial Museum of the Year.

A short drive north of Dundee is Glamis Castle, the birthplace of HM The Queen Mother and the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Travelling east from Pitcairlie along the south banks of the Tay brings the visitor quickly to Perth. Nearby is Scone Palace, the Ancient Crowning Place of the Kings of Scots and the original home of the Stone of Destiny.

Taking the A9 north from Perth, the landscape changes dramatically as the visitor enters Highland Perthshire. Dunkeld, Aberfeldy and Pitlochry are well worth visiting, and all lie within range of a day trip from Pitcairlie.

Just north of Pitlochry is Killiecrankie, scene of the famous battle and the Soldier's Leap, and Blair Castle, the seat of the Dukes of Atholl.

Highland Perthshire, like the Angus glens, offers superb hill walking country, with walks suitable for all ranges of experience, and the scenery is stunning!
